A New New Years Resolution

New Year’s resolutions can be an interesting topic to discuss with people. Some people think they are pointless while others find them beneficial and constructive.

Whichever side of the fence you choose to sit I think we can all agree that the stereotypical New Years’ resolutions of losing weight, eating better, and starting to exercise more are vague, ineffective and almost a bit lazy.

Personally, I’ve always found that it’s a great time to reflect on the things that went well for me, along with the things that maybe didn’t go so well. Whether or not I choose to come up with a specific plan to change things or I simply change my perspective on others, my goal is to always have a better year than the year before.

This year one of my clients told me about how she likes to choose a word instead of that she takes into the year, almost like an affirmation. I loved this idea as it doesn’t focus on a specific outcome and doesn’t involve an endpoint. It’s a simple word that she spends the year living by and no matter how big or little the effort, she is always making progress on her goal.

Last year my clients’ word was Sparkle – to see the sparkle in everything around her, which I found so awesome!

This year I decided to go with a word too. Action – to take action without hesitation or procrastination.

What do you think? If you could choose a word for 2021 what would it be?
