I want to start by saying that if you believe or think that you need to improve your fitness BEFORE you get started at the gym then you should change that thought because that couldn’t be further from the truth.
Gyms aren’t designed for ‘fit’ people, they create them. Gyms, group fitness classes, personal trainers and things alike are there to help you achieve better health and better fitness, not to train ‘fit’ people.
You shouldn’t wait or put off getting started at the gym if your goal is to improve your health and fitness. Gyms are full of equipment that is designed to help you exercise your body in a safe and effective way, and are full of people whose job it is to help and support you to achieve your goals.
I understand gyms are intimidating, and sometimes overwhelming so it’s important you get started in a way that makes things easier and enjoyable for you.
Here are my 3 recommendations for getting started:
- Do it with a friend
- Hire someone to help get you started
- Do something you enjoy
If you are going to join a gym or start training somewhere you want to make sure that you WANT to be there. To do this you’ll need to make sure you feel comfortable, you enjoy it and it fits into your lifestyle. Any resistance in these areas will lead to you not going or sticking to what you set out to achieve. This doesn’t just apply to joining a gym, but getting started with any physical activity to improve your health and fitness.
You’ll always feel a little uncomfortable in the beginning when trying something new but remember that getting started is the hardest part. Once you start you’ll wonder why you didn’t start earlier.
